Former education minister Oby Ezekwesili has expressed deep disappointment in the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari following the accidental bombing of IDPs camp in Rann, Borno state on Tuesday, January 17 by Nigerian Air Force jets.
The convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, in series of tweets on her verified Twitter, told her thousands of followers that President Buhari had failed as a leader to show sensitivity to the plight of citizens who are suffering greatly.
In the tweets in which she tagged the president’s personal handle, Ezekwesili accused him of failing to show to his people that he is aware of their problems and that he cares. She pointed to the president’s failure to visit some of the major flashpoints that have cost citizens their lives across the country and also to his failure to speak up on some incidents as reasons for her disappointment in the president’s method of leadership.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, January 18 cancelled the Federal Executive Council meeting and sent a high-profile delegation to the scene of the accidental bombing in Rann to commiserate with the victims. But Ezekwesili felt the president should have done more to show he really cared about his people.
The president’s statement condemning the military error that has cost between 76 and 100 lives of civilians, doctors, aid workers and soldiers is not enough, according to Ezekwesili because the president has to see for himself.
