Emerging report indicates that no fewer than 17 Governors from the Southern part of Nigeria will on Monday, October 23, 2017, gather in Lagos State, to look at ways of forging stronger ties ahead of 2019, through restructuring.
Recall, that the South-West had once declared that restructuring will determine its voting pattern in the next general elections, coming up in 2019.
This was contained in a statement the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, SSG, Tunji Bello, signed and released.
He said that the meeting will be co-hosted by the Governors of Lagos and Akwa Ibom States, Akinwunmi Ambode and Emmanuel Udom, respectively.
The statement reads in part: “The 2017 Lagos Summit of the 17 Southern Governors representing the South-South, South-West and South-East zones, is expected to come up with a communiqué after the deliberation.
“It is noteworthy to recall that the inaugural meeting of the Southern Governors took place in Lagos in 2001, under the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The statement went further to note that predominance of views is that if the Southern States speak with one voice, they are going to draw weighty and credible listenership.
The 17 Southern States expected at the Summit include: Governors Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom; Ben Ayade of Cross River State; Godwin Obaseki of Edo State; Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.
Others are: Willie Obiano of Anambra State; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State; David Umahi of Ebonyi State; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State; Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State; Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State; Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, and Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State.
