The cat has been finally let out of the bag, as reports making round revealed that President Muhammmadu Buhari and his top Aides, have in a closed door meeting named the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as his future successor, either for 2019, or for 2023, in case Buhari is fit to run for the 2019 Presidential race.
Sources said that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, almost collapsed when he heard that Nasir E-Rufai has been picked as Buhari’s replacement ahead of 2019.
Elsewhere, Sahara Reporters in its exclusive report disclosed that Buhari and his close Associates asked El-Rufai to take up the role of Honourary Adviser to the Presidential campaign in the meantime, which they said had already kicked off subtly through a series of propaganda initiatives, since President Buhari returned from a prolonged medical treatment in London, for an undisclosed illness.
Buhari and his team also asked El-Rufai to prepare for a second term as Governor, so as to strengthen his credentials to run for the Presidency in 2023, peradventure Buhari regains full strength to run for President in 2019.
Recall, that when El-Rufai emerged from the meeting with Buhari, on Friday, in the Presidential Willa, he took a swipe at the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Jumai AlHassan, who recently openly declared her intention to back former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku, for the Presidency, in 2019, even if Buhari was in the race.
El-Rufai told Reporters that he had warned Buhari against appointing Alhassan as a Minister.
The source also revealed that the Kaduna State Governor was asked to visit Lagos shortly, to communicate the President’s latest decision to seek re-election to supporters in the South-West geopolitical zone.
