What could be described as uneasy calm has hit Gambian government circle as one of President Adama Barrow's top Minister threw in the towel by resigning his appointment.
The Minister in question, our source revealed, is none other than the country's Justice Minister, Abubacarr Tambadou.
Taken by a storm of his decision to resign his appointment, President Adama Barrow has refused to sign the resignation letter tendered Mr. Tambadou.
His resignation, according to reports, followed the emergence of a secret recording where the Minister's brother Sheriff Tambadou, a member of the prosecution team to prosecute nine members of the country's secret police, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) involved in a certain murder case was quoted as saying the case would not have been taken to court.
The above-named members of the secret police were accused of killing a top member of Gambia's main opposition party, the United Democratic Party (UDP), Ebrima Solo Sandeng.
However, Presidency sources say President Adama Barrow has refused to sign the resignation letter. The reason cited by Mr. Barrow was that his services were still needed by the new government.
President Barrow while rejecting the resignation letter wrote on his Facebook page:
“A tape on a conversation between a family member of one of the people in the NIA 9 case and Sherriff Tambedou, a prosecution team member, has been leaked. In this light, Justice Minister Abubacarr Tambadou, a brother to Sherriff, felt strongly about it and offered his resignation. Having carefully considered the resignation offer, I rejected it because of the trust and confidence I have in his professionalism and integrity in handling his work.”
