The Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa'ad, has warned the Nigerian Army and National Youth Service Corps for fresh graduates across the country over planned recruitment and orientation exercises while Muslims in Nigeria are observing the Ramadan fast.
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, led by Abubakar Sa’ad, the Sultan of Sokoto, called on the Nigerian Army to without delay postponed the planned recruitment exercise until Muslims are done with fasting.
The decision to postpone the planned recruitment and orientation exercises, according to reports was part of resolutions, which included fervent prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari, by JNI at its recently-concluded annual central council meeting in Kaduna.
While further condemning the planned exercises, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, said NYSC admitting new entrants into orientation camps and the Nigerian Army conducting recruitment exercise during the Ramadan fasting would affect Muslims.
JNI said: “This is because the prospective corps members would be at disadvantage to their faith and other camp activities.
“The council also calls on the authority of the Nigerian Army to postpone the intended recruitment exercise until after Ramadan to avoid putting prospective candidates at a disadvantage.”
Frowning further, the JNI called on the NYSC to immediately honour the previous agreement reached by the that orientation across the country would not hold during the holy month of Ramadan.
