An All Progressives Congress, APC, Chieftain and former Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, has accepted the definition that “stealing is not corruption”, revealing that corruption is based on different ethnic coloration.
He argued that the failure of leadership, is the highest point of corruption that is known to mankind.
Recall, that the ruling APC’s change mantra, is anchored on the mantra of change with its cardinal programme of fighting corruption, in whatever shades it take.
The APC Chieftain, made this revelation on Monday, at the Book Launch titled: ”Antidote of Corruption”, authored by Senator Dino Melaye, which took place at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; former First Lady, Patience Jonathan; and the incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello; were among the dignitaries at the Book Launch.
Speaking at the occasion, Na’Abba said corruption in the country, is often defined from a subjective perspective.
He described the menace as a failure of leadership in the country.
Defining corruption as any form of social deviance, the former Speaker said Nigerians must come to a consensus of what constitutes corruption.
According to him, the definition of corruption, is usually colored by ethnic and religious sentiments.
“There is no consensus on what constitutes corruption; most definitions of corruption in Nigeria have been subjective”, he said.
“Corruption is not only in matters of finance, corruption also means deviance. It is simply a failure of leadership. It is social deviance. Nepotism, stealing, and all social deviance are corruption”, he added.
