The South East Governors have called on pro-Biafra movements especially the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to desist henceforth from actions which they described as capable of plunging the zone into irredeemable crisis over the planned sit-at-home order called by IPOB and other pro-Biafra movements on may 30.
They stated this in a statement issued in Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital. The Chairman of South-east Governors' Forum, David Umahi said contrary to the allegation levied by IPOB that the governors played no role in the release of Nnamdi Kanu from detention said that his release from detention could not have been possible without their concerted efforts.
On the planned sit-at-home order, the governors urged the leadership of IPOB to reconsider its decision seeing that going ahead with the planned sit-at-home is capable of plunging the entire southeast zone to an irredeemable crisis which the region will regret.
He said: “the South East governors are fully aware of the saturation of various information with the call by the leaders of movements known as IPOB agitation for secession from the Federal Republic of Nigeria and formation of Sovereign state of Biafra.
On the consequences that the sit-at-home order will cause, the governors said: ''It would be a tragic dereliction of our collective responsibility as leaders, if we fail to take a clear and definitive stand at this potentially explosive movement in history of Ndigbo.”
