During his election campaign, one key promise of President Buhari is that he will actually create jobs for Nigerians. Many felt that just like other politicians this was just one of the many campaign promises that would go unfulfilled. However, what has happened since 2015, shows that he might actually be creating jobs for Nigerians and there are various signs that we can all see to prove that it is actually true. Here are some of those signs:
1. Increase in oil prices
On May 13, 2016, Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, explained how the increase in fuel price will create 200,000 jobs and prevent the loss of 400,000 more jobs. How? He said it would reduce hoarding, smuggling and diversion of products substantially, and improve fuel supply through private sector participation in the fuel business and through investments in Nigerian refineries.

2. N-power
The N-power scheme set up by President Buhari is aimed at getting undergraduates employment. How? The N-Power Teacher Corp involves a massive deployment of 500,000 trained graduates who will assist to improve the inadequacies in our public services in education, health and civic education. Some of these graduates will also help in actualizing Nigeria’s economic and strategic aspirations of achieving food security and self-sufficiency.
3. Lagos bus conductors
On October 28, 2016, the national president of the Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN) Comrade Israel Ade Adeshola through the Lagos state ministry of transportation said it would employ 1000 graduates from different Universities as bus conductors. He also added that after the training the successful ones would be employed as bus conductors and would be on the payroll of the government with a salary of N50,000 per month.

4. FIRS jobs
On August 28, 2016 the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) advertised job opening for several positions. On November 2, the the Chairman of the FIRS, Mr Tunde Fowler, said that the organisation received more than 700,000 applications from the recent job advert it placed. The applications received included about 2,000 first class degree holders.
5. Teachers and extension workers
On November 5, 2016, the vice president, Yemi Osibanjo, in a bid to reduce unemployment said the federal government has revealed plans to employ 200,000 graduates to work for a duration of time as teachers and agricultural extension workers. We are yet to see this manifest, but it sounds like a very good initiative.
6. Bank of Industry
Another avenue of job creation is the Bank of Industry partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), it is known as the Graduate Entrepreneurship fund (GEF). It is a special N2 billion fund launched in October 2015. It called on a serving NYSC members with viable business ideas to submit their business plans online, undergo intensive training to enable them start up and then they would be given funds to start the business in question.
Some of these schemes have been successful, others are yet to materialize, but there are signs that the President is working on ways to create employment for all Nigerians.
