The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, Tuesday announced the reduction of crime across the country.
Idris insisted that the Police have made remarkable strides, especially in the area of kidnapping.
He made the position at a meeting with senior police officers, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The IGP also used the platform to announce the establishment of Joint Operation Centres (JOCs) in all the 36 State Commands, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which he hoped, will reduce military/police rancour.
Coming against the backdrop of what is commonly called “ember months”, Idris noted: “Crime rate has been reduced in all the states of the federation, to the barest minimum.
“We have made a lot of breakthrough, especially in the area of kidnapping.” While underscoring the importance of JOCs, the police chief said: “Joint Operation Centres, which will have military postings, will help to reduce rancour…”
In the meantime, the IGP has stressed the importance of loyalty to constituted authority, even as he declared that “promotion is now based on seniority.”
Also Tuesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said there was no substitute to the Police, regardless of criticisms.
