PARIS, NOVEMBER 23, 2016: (DGW)The Nigerian upper legislative chambers has backed military action to end detruction of national assets and bombing oil pipeline in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta by increasing its budgetary allocation for 2017.
This disclosure was made by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Hamma- Misau.
The Senator gave the assurance while leading an oversight function to the Headquarters of the Easter Naval Command (ENC) in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
He said: “We are going back to the drawing board to see how we can get more money for the Navy so that we can assist them to perform their duties effectively. Without resources, they cannot perform their duties creditably. And if you look at it, the jetty is nothing to write home about because these are very critical infrastructure that the navy needs.
“The situation is not only limited to the ENC. Our commitment is to try our best to make sufficient provision for the entire Navy in the 2017 budget.’’
Responding, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) ENC, Rear Adm. James Oluwole said “in a recession, there can be progression; it all depends on how we look at it. I want to tell you that with what I have seen and the confidence I have gathered from the committee and the support from the federal government, we are going to make progress.’’
