He emphasised the importance of resettlement of the displaced persons, lamenting that the nation do not have the technical know-how to achieve a smooth settlement for the IDPs in the North East.
Ndume stated that though the federal government is committed on the case of the IDPs, there were issues which needed to be taken care of.
The senator added that the greatest challenge was how the IDPs could resettle in their various communities and begin their lives yet again..
“The biggest challenge is to get people back to their land but we do not have the technical no-know. Unless we have an institutional frame work, it won’t be as easy. Government is committed but there is no technical and institutional framework to handle this.
“So much money was wasted during the past administration. This is the challenge we have. We are open to all forms of ideas for the way forward. All hands will be on deck. The first thing to take care of is hunger, malnutrition of th people,” he said.
He also expressed shock that even when the IDPs were suffering for lack of food, some Nigerians have resorted to stealing foods made for them.
