Majority of Nigerians, have voted for the former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to become Nigeria’s First Female President, ahead of the 2019 Presidential elections, Post-Nigeria’s Poll has revealed.
Okonjo-Iweala, served two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria, and worked also, as the Managing Director of the World Bank.
In the poll exclusively conducted by Post-Nigeria, Okonjo-Iweala polled a total of 5, 639 (69%) votes, out of a total vote of 8,136. Followed by the former Minister of Education and Co-Founder of the Bring Back Our Girls advocacy group, Obiageli Ezekeseli, who polled an insignificant 1,138 votes, gathering 14% of the total votes.
Arguably, Ezekwesili might have lost to Okonjo-Iweala, because of her role in the removal of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, during the 2015 general elections.
Recall, that last year, Okonjo-Iweala ranked 48th on the Forbes list of the world’s most influential women, ahead of World Health Organization’s Director General, DG, Margaret Chan, who ranked 62nd. Also, Nigerian billionaire, Folorunsho Alakija, ranked 87th, and Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, settled at the 96th position, among many others.
Pastor Tunde Bakare, of the Latter Rain Assembly, had in an interview with the Punch, said ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo, wanted Okonjo-Iweala to be President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate, at the 2011 general elections.
Tolu Ogunlesi, a Nigerian Journalist and Blogger, once said: “I have no doubts about Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s brilliance, competence, and passion for Nigeria. A lot of the goodwill she has today, dates back to the work she did, alongside others, to clean up Nigeria’s public sector, and clear our crushing burden of foreign debt.”
