PARIS, NOVEMBER 23, 2016: (DGW) Against the general belief that Nigeria is a corrupt country ,the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has risen to defend Nigerians saying Nigerians are not corrupt.
He said although there are cases of corruption in the country but it would be improper to say the country is corrupt and made up of criminals. He made the remark during an interview with the BBC Hausa service.
Saraki while responding to questions during the interview said held that he is out to market his country and not to destroy it or its image before the international community.
His words: My take is that I must market my country and would label it as such. Yes , there are issues we must address but I am not going to dwell so much on that because I need to market my country so that I can get private sector inflow''
''I must create an enabling environment that will encourage growth because, without it , it will be difficult for us to see the kind of growth we are talking about . The government alone can not do it.
asked if he has witnessed cases of corruption in the country, he said, of course, we have and that is why we have oversight functions. Like many other countries, we have those kinds of challenges but we have moved a long way''
