Embattled former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, is facing a fresh challenge in his ongoing trial. One of his sureties Olugbumi Usim-Wilson, recently filed an application to withdraw from the case. Metuh has two people standing surety for him. If Usim-Wilson makes good her plan to withdraw as Metuh’s surety, the ex-PDP spokesman may be have to remain in detention for the duration of his case.
Usim-Wilson made her desire known during the resumed legal proceedings of Metuh’s trial at the Abuja Federal High Court on Monday. The request was dated October 4 and filed before Justice Okon Abang. It was expressly stated therein that Usim-Wilson no longer feels comfortable being a surety to Metuh and would therefore appreciate the withdrawal of her name from the list.
Metuh’s prompt response was to file an application requesting the court to allow the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to replace Usim-Wilson on the surety list. Counsel to Metuh, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, said if the request for withdrawal was attended to before that of substitution, his client might be returned to the prison.
