PARIS, SEPTEMBER 22, 2016: (DGW) If the reports reaching our Paris newsroom are anything to by, bishops of the Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion) numbering 170 who were in Anambra State for a meeting have taken to their heels to avoid being caught in the sit-at-home protest ordered by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) billed for September 23.
The meeting, our reporter gathered was originally billed to last for five days but the visiting bishops unavoidably had to flee to avoid being trapped in the impending protest.
For fear of being trapped, our reporter gathered that the state governor Chief Willie Obiano had earlier been approached by the Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicolas Okoh, to prevail on IPOB members to enable the conference go on hitch-free which of course did not yield any fruitful dividend.
Recall IPOB had called banks, markets and every other business concerns to observe the stay-at-home warning to protest against the continued detention of its leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Okoh said, “We are not against whatever their agitations are, but we ask them to wait until we leave Awka on Friday.
“If they go on to carry out that protest, we may be trapped in Anambra as the Niger Bridge is the only exit from Anambra State.
“So, help us beg them to allow us to go,” the Primate told Governor Willie Obiano.
