Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, visited former governor of Delta State, James Ibori at his country home in Oghara, Delta State, yesterday.
Ibori returned from London where he served a jail term for money laundering last month and held a closed-door meeting with the Bayelsa governor.
Dickson’s reportedly visited Ibori in Oghara, to consult on issues affecting security in the Niger Delta and also, the crises in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor, sources said, believes Ibori, with his commanding respect in the Niger Delta region would, on one hand, be able to rein the boys from further destruction of national assets and, on the other hand, as a prominent member of the PDP, play a role in ensuring that peace returns to the party.
A Bayelsa State Government House statement, signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, confirmed the meeting, and added that it centred mainly on the Niger Delta crisis and ways the former governor can be of help.
After the meeting, Dickson was said to have expressed happiness with the mood and disposition of Ibori as the latter was said to be upbeat about enthroning peace in the Niger Delta region.
The two leaders equally discussed likely windows of opportunities for criminally-minded youths in the region to be more meaningfully engaged as well as protect some of the critical national assets of the country within the region.
Many prominent politicians, former governors and serving governors across party lines have visited Ibori to pledge their loyalty and show solidarity which is an indication that Ibori’s sphere of influence has not diminished with his corruption trial.
