Nigeria runs the risk of winding up as a nation if Buhari continues to remain defiant to the barrage of calls from prominent and other well-meaning Nigerians to urgently restructure the country, Dr Cosmas Ilechukwu has said.
According to him, the government should not browbeat the people of Nigeria into compliance with the political construct that has failed the country.
He spoke at the 2016 edition of the Change we need lecture series with the topic” Restructuring: Whose Nigeria?
Ilechukwu who is the General Overseer, Charismatic Renewal ministries said the demand for restructuring has been rife for some time now, but a national consensus on the subject is still not in sight noting that those who oppose the idea see the clamour as a mere subterfuge of some disgruntled Nigerians to divide the country.
He said: Nigeria must restructure to survive as a nation. The government should not browbeat the people of Nigeria into compliance with the political construct that has failed us. That tactics might have worked in the sixties but it can certainly not fly today.
“Nigeria should not presume to be a superior configuration .Nothing can subvert the will of the people, no matter the length of the struggle, we should rather sit down and renegotiate our coexistence as one nation under God or continue to live in self delusion that all is well.
“When you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. This is what restructuring of Nigeria beckons us to do. To do otherwise is to play the ostrich with the future of our great nation.
