PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has revealed why he arrested and jailed many top politicians and civil servants while he was Nigeria's military Head of State.
He disclosed this in Kano on Wednesday on his two-day official visit to the state.
Buhari who was impressed with the turnout of the residents to welcome said there is no doubt Kano is his political base and appreciated the support given to him by the people of the state inspite of the hardship ravaging the country.
He blamed the hardship and inability to provide infrastructures for the people on the past administrations commencing from 1999 to 2015 which he said wasted the country's resources.
Speaking further, he said these factors were responsible for the lack of constant power, the present lack of infrastructures and the low quality of education in the country.
According to President Buhari, “When I was the military head of state, I arrested many people and jailed them for alleged corruption and, in the end, I also ended in jail.
“Since I joined politics in 2003, I have contested for president three times but I could not get it right until during the fourth attempt in 20015. I was in court for 30 months challenging the 2007 elections and in 2011; I also spent 16 months in court.”
