Emerging report indicates that the embattled Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, might bow to pressure anytime soon, by tendering his resignation letter.
This came as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the running mate to the late Abubakar Audu in the 2015 Governorship election in the State, James Faleke, have called for the resignation of the State Governor, following his indictment by a Panel of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, investigating him for double registration during the election.
Recall, that INEC had on Thursday, approved the immediate sack of two of its officials, and the compulsory retirement of another electoral official, for their alleged role in the Governor’s double registration.
The electoral body however, stated that it could not take any action against the Governor, as he still enjoyed immunity, by virtue of section 308 of the 1999 Constitution.
Reacting however, the Kogi State PDP Publicity Secretary, Bode Ogunmola, said in a statement: “Double registration is an offence under our laws, and we are happy that INEC is doing the needful now. The Governor does not know the law, and unfortunately, he has surrounded himself with an amateur. If not, his Attorney-General should have been able to advise him that double registration is an offence.”
Faleke also called for the immediate resignation of the Governor in the next 48-hours, over what he described as a breach of the electoral laws.
