Pope Francis, has declared that Jerusalem is 'for us Christians while speaking to Palestinians ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on Jerusalem.
He said on Wednesday “recognising the rights of all people” should form the basis for a dialogue.
The pope, had before today spoke to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas about the crisis on Tuesday to be precise and also to a group of visiting Palestinians involved in inter-religious dialogue with the Vatican.
In his words: “The Holy Land is for us Christians the land par excellence of dialogue between God and mankind.”
“The primary condition of that dialogue is reciprocal respect and a commitment to strengthening that respect, for the sake of recognising the rights of all people, wherever they happen to be,” he said.
On Wednesday a senior U.S. officials said US President Trump would make an announcement to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Part of the arrangement and announcement is to see the immediate relocation of the U.S. Embassy to the ancient city.
But the Arab world speaking with one voice has expressed outrage and warned it would amount to crossing the red lines.
