Aside from qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have already set a new record with their 1-1 draw against Algeria, on Friday night.
Gernot Rohr’s men finished the just-concluded series unbeaten in six games, and are top of Group B, with 14 points.
Goals from John Ogu and Yacine Brahimi for both sides, decided the day, on Friday night.
However, Nigeria has set the record to become the first African side to go 36 games unbeaten in the world cup qualifiers, after their last defeat on the road at Angola, in 2004.
Fabrice Akwa’s strike condemned the West Africans to a shocking defeat, which ultimately cost them a place in Germany, two years later.

However, since then, the Eagles have not blinked an eyelid, winning a staggering 24 games.
Interestingly, only Spain, on a 63-game streak, has bettered that record.
According to Opta Nigeria, a record noting site, the Super Eagles have gone 36 consecutive World Cup qualifiers, unbeaten
“36 – The @NGSuperEagles are unbeaten in 36 consecutive World Cup qualifiers (W24 D12), since losing 1-0 to Angola, in June 2004. Only Spain (63) have a longer current unbeaten.”
