Emerging report made available to US, has revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari outrightly shunned the invitation of the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to be part of those to honour and unveil the alleged N520 million South African President, Jacob Zuma’s statue in Owerri.
According to the South African President, when he told his colleague (Buhari) to accompany him to honour Rochas Okorocha’s invitation, he got the reply that “he (Buhari) was indisposed”.
However, a reliable source from the Presidency, on Tuesday, confided in OUR Correspondent, that Buhari decided to stay clear from the ceremony, neither did he send a representative, because he “did not want to stain his integrity”.
“Buhari can not stain his reputation for Jacob Zuma, who is currently facing serious charges of of corruption in his country. Buhari does not associate with corrupt people. Also the building of a statue for a man who has not contributed anything to the well being of Nigeria, is needless”, the source said.
Also, Post-Nigeria was told that scores have taken to the streets to condemn the erection of the N520 million statue for the South African Leader.
The protesters, including the Governor’s former Aide and one-time Member of the House of Representatives, Uche Onyeaguocha, retirees, Advocacy Against Corruption Initiative, among others, questioned the rationale behind the erection, and naming of a road in a choice highbrow area of Owerri after the South African President.
AWACI in a statement, sought commencement of impeachment proceedings against the Governor, for the alleged hosting of the South African Leader with State’s resources, and signing a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, of Rochas Foundation College for Africa, with the Zuma Foundation.
