President Muhammadu Buhari is currently holding talks with President Erdogan at the Presidential complex.
The Nigerian leader departed Abuja yesterday together with his family to participate in D-8 summit in Turkey to begin tomorrow, Friday 20, 2017.
Tayyip Erdogan assured Buhari that Turkey will do everything possible to assist Nigeria in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the northeast being calling attention to Takfiri terrorist group operating in the country.
He said. “We are ready to combat terrorism with Nigeria. We would like you to enjoy our experience in the field of defense,” said Erdogan during a joint press conference with his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari in the capital Abuja on Wednesday.
Commenting President Buhari hailed Nigerian troops battling the insurgency, saying “any terror in Nigeria deeply hurts our hearts.”
He went on to say that terrorism “is the same all over the world” and has “no religion or nationality.”
Also expected to feature in the talks between the two leaders is the issue of arms and ammunition being imported to Nigeria from the country. Recall the Nigerian Defence Minister Dan Alli had alleged that the pro-Biafra separatist's group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is behind the arms shipment into the country, a claim which the group has consistently denied.
Worried by the development, President Buhari with Nigeria's Custom boss departed the country to attend the D-8 summit where he is expected to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart on the burning issue.
