Police in Imo State have arrested some suspects in connection with last weekend’s abduction and murder of Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo. This is also as Governor Rochas Okorocha has re-assured residents of the state that his administration had put in place adequate measures to ensure the security of lives and property and as such indigenes should go about their lawful businesses without fear.
The governor disclosed the arrests while speaking with journalists yesterday in Owerri, the state capital. Okorocha disclosed that the suspects were making useful confessions that would help police investigations. He said: “Some of those who are entrusted with the security of the people may be complicit in this matter.”
However, the governor did not elaborate on it. Okorocha noted with particular concern, the level of hate speech against his person, family and government following the demolition of the contentious Ekeukwu Owerri market.
He condemned the numerous hate speeches and negative social media campaigns which he ascribed to desperate politicians.
The governor debunked the rumour of the death of his first son, Aham, describing it as the height of wickedness. He implored politicians to stop spreading hate and bitterness and focus on issues of development confronting the state Okorocha restated his commitment to the growth and development of the state and promised to leave Imo State better than he met it.
