There are speculations that the Leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, and his foot soldiers may have finally relocated to the ancient city of Kano.
This came following the announcement of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, that scores of members of the Boko Haram group have been arrested in Kano, within the last few days.
Recall, that Nigeria Air Force had earlier released a statement detailing how hundreds of Boko Haram fighters were killed in Sambisa.
Speaking at the annual Hawan Nassarawa, Ganduje said several arms and ammunitions had also been recovered from the dreaded insurgents that invaded the State to launch attacks on innocent people during the Sallah celebrations.
Ganduje explained that: “The arrested insurgents have been taken to Abuja this morning (yesterday), for further investigation. Possibly, these insurgents were from Sambisa forest, and their plan was to launch another coordinated attack on Kano during Sallah celebrations.”
The Governor said the recent arrest followed series of security tips-off, saying: “The security agencies have received reports of suspicious movements of strange faces in the State. Having got the information, the security personnel intensified intelligence gathering, and they did not relent in their efforts until they foiled the evil mission and arrested the insurgents.”
He said the successes being recorded by security agencies in the fight against insurgency may not be unconnected with a commitment of the Federal and State Governments, in the crusade against the security challenges affecting the country.
