The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has demanded for the immediate withdrawal of military men in southeast, the group said the military presence in the east will not end the agitation for secession
They urged the government to replace the military with the police with immediate effect
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has demanded that the federal government stop the military operation in the southeast and withdraw the soldiers from the zone.
The group warned that the military presence in southeast would not put an end to the ongoing agitation for secession by the region. They argued that why they had all agreed to clamp down on violence in the state, they had also agreed that the military be withdrawn and replace by the police if necessary.
Recall that the Ohanaeze and southeast governors met in a meeting on Friday, September 15 and agreed to proscribe the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement by the president-general of the Ohanaeze, Chief John Nwodo in Abuja on Sunday, September 17, the group said the decision by the army to start the operation python dance in the southeast at this particular time is regrettable.
Punch reports that Nwodo said: “The military option is never a solution to the problem of nation-building. “We refer for instance to the goings on in Spain, Scotland and other parts of the world to reaffirm that only through dialogue can the national question be resolved. Consequently, we condemn all acts of violence in pursuance of freedom of expression.”
