Emerging report shows that President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, among others, are slated to know their fate 504 days from today, being Friday, September 29, 2017.
This came as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced Saturday, February 16, 2019, as the date for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria.
This was announced by the Commission’s National Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, in a series of tweets on INEC’s Twitter handle.
He said: “The Presidential and National Assembly elections have been fixed for Saturday, 16th February, 2019. While the Governorship, State Assembly, and Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Area Council elections, are fixed for Saturday, 2nd March, 2019.”
The INEC Chairman said in the ongoing voters registration exercise that: “2,786,405 citizens have been registered, out of which 1,619,513 (58 percent) are male, while 1,166,892 (42 percent) are female.
“In addition, 108,752 unclaimed PVCs were collected, 132,431 requested for transfer, while 26,429 requested for replacement of their PVCs.
“We wish to assure Nigerians that INEC will continue to explore ways by which we can improve on all the processes associated with the ongoing CVR.
“As you are aware, the foundation of a free and fair election, rests on credible voters register”, Prof. Mahmood noted.
