The Nigerian Senate has approved a bill which prescribes the death sentence for anyone who engages in the act of kidnapping
A clause in the bill states that anyone guilty of the offence which then results in the death of the victim shall be liable on conviction to be sentenced to death
The bill was sponsored by Senator Isa Misau, and passed by a unanimous decision following a voice vote A bill which prescribes the death sentence for anyone who engages in kidnapping, has been approved by the upper legislative chamber, Premium Times reports.
The red chamber approved the bill on Thursday, September 28. WE understands that the law also outlaws abduction, wrongful restraint in order to obtain ransom, and also approves a 30-year jail sentence for anyone who collaborates with a kidnapper.
Clause 1 (3) of the bill states: “Whoever is guilty of the offence and then results in the death of the victim shall be liable on conviction to be sentenced to death.” The bill was sponsored by Senator Isa Misau (APC-Bauchi), and was passed by a unanimous decision, following a voice vote.
