Senate President Bukola Saraki’s move to recover the N4 billion awarded to him by Kwara State High Court, to be paid by Sahara Reporters, suffered setback on Wednesday.
This came as the online media Publisher, Omoyele Sowore, through his Lawyer, approached the court, asking for the judgement to be set aside, saying he was not served.
All efforts made by Saraki’s Counsel, Paul Erokoro, to see a reason why Sahara Reporters must pay the N4 billion fell on deaf ears, as the presiding Judge, Adeyika Sikiru, adjourned the matter to September 14.
Post-Nigeria could recall, that the State High Court had awarded N4 billion against the online medium, for accusing the Senate President of misdeeds, which the Court said were not substantiated.
It was learnt that Saraki’s faithful companion, Senator Dino Melaye, was not among the supporters that filled the court room in solidarity with the Senate President.
Saraki’s loyalists arrived the High Court complex as early as 7.30 am, before the commencement of the court proceedings at 9:00 am.
Speaking on the adjournment of the case with Journalists on Wednesday, Saraki’s lead Counsel said that the process filed by Counsel to Sahara Reporters was not mature for his response, and thus the Judge ruled that he was within time to file his response, while the matter was adjourned until September 14, 2017.
Also speaking, Sahara Reporters’ lead Counsel, Stanley Imharuo, said that they were not served with originating process, among other records of proceedings before the judgement.
“We want the court to set aside the entire proceedings. We filed other papers restraining the other party in the proceedings. When the matter came up on Wednesday, the judgement creditor’s respondents could not respond to our papers for the hearing of our applications.
