Amnesty International has again clashed with the Nigerian government over Human Rights violations by illegal detention of Nigerians.
The global rights group urged the Nigerian government to release all detainees and duly charge them to court if there are genuine allegations against them.
Part of the allegations also slammed against the Nigerian authorities is enforced disappearance of persons perpetrated by government agencies which are prohibited under the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, to which Nigerian state is a signatory.
This was contained in a statement by its media manager, Isa Sanusi, in commemoration of the International Day of the Disappeared.
Isa called on the federal government to release without further delay all those being kept behind bars without trial and also to release details of the whereabouts of those being held.
The statement reads in part: “Many families of the victims of enforced disappearance spend painful years searching for justice, truth and reparation but are ignored or misled about the fate of their relatives.

‘The authorities must do the right thing now by releasing all of them or disclosing information about their fate or whereabouts”, Osai Ojigho, said.
