GAMBIA: No longer At ease, EU makes important clarifications on Gambian deportees, reveals huge grants to Adama Barrow's gov't to develop his country

THE European Union has washed its hands off the deportation of Gambians or other migrants from Europe.

The EU Ambassador, Attila Lajos, made some important clarifications while speaking on Wednesday last week at a press conference about the deportation of Gambians from Europe.

He said the issue of deportation is decided by individual countries, a matter which the EU has virtually no say or influence all things considered.

Speaking further, however, he attributed the issue to a bilateral arrangement in which the EU is not permitted by law to interfere or intervene.  

Ambassador Attila Lajos , remarked that despite the billions of Dalasi the EU has given the new administration under President Adama Barrow there is no condition, clause or article that obliges the government in  Banjul to asked for a forced removal of its citizens from Europe under any guise except such migrants have exhausted all legal options to remain in the EU, it is only on that ground they could be deported.

This is coming on heels of insinuations making the rounds that governments are often paid by the EU to sign for the removal of its nationals from the EU.

In his words: "Migrants that exhaust their legal remedies, including the right of appeal, and could not still be granted legal documents to stay in Europe should be deported, by law.  But the deportation of such migrants is now left out to the bilateral agreement between the host country [the European country] and the country of origin of the migrant.", he said.

"However, I can tell you the number of migrants sent back from Europe is very small compared to the number of migrants that exhaust their legal remedies and are still living in Europe.''

''In this connection, no fewer than seventy-five million euros was pledged in May this year in the short-term and one-hundred and fifty million euros to help President Adama Barrow's government develop his country.'', he added.
