REPORTS reaching us say the Coalition of Northern Youths will today on Thursday, August 24, 2017, formally make an announcement to withdraw the eviction order issued to Igbos living in the northern part of Nigeria which has generated so much tension in the country.
Recall the Arewa Youths issued an eviction order to Igbos to vacate the North on or before October 1, 2017.
The decision to make a formal announcement according to our source was reached on Wednesday at an international press conference in Abuja.
The decision to withdraw the eviction order, according to our source, followed a series of meetings and extensive consultations by well-meaning Nigerians and numerous stakeholders.
The final decision, he said, to cancel the notice was actually taken since last week which would be formally announced today after a meeting with no fewer than seven prominent northern elders.
He said: “At the meeting which took place last week Wednesday, the Northern elders persuaded the Arewa youths to withdraw the quit notice for the sake of national interest, in order that the country be kept as one.'', the source added.
