FORMER Governor of the Old Kaduna State, Alhaji Kaita Lawal has denounced the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which he described subversive.
He stated this in a chat in reaction to the ongoing ethnic agitation for restructuring and agitation for a possible break-up.
Alhaji Kaita who is doubtless a prime mover and a formidable voice in the North swore that the North will not consent to Nigeria's break but would in stead fight again to keep Nigeria one no matter whose ox is gored.
On the negotiation of the country's sovereignty, he said that ''restructuring or break-up 'is certainly not an option. You cannot live for 100 years and start talking about negotiation simply because some people have oil. It’s nonsense. It is ridiculous. Why do they want negotiation, in fact?''
Correcting his impression that it was not about oil, he retorted
''What is the issue?''
However, his attention was called to the activities of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) which say they want to secede from Nigeria.
Kaita Lawal angrily asked 'Go to where'. He remarked that a war was fought for that purpose.
''I, Lawal Kaita you are talking to now have been part of Nigerian politics all along. I was part of the conference you are talking about. I am not prepared to negotiate anything, whether Independence, sovereignty or anything. I am not prepared to negotiate it.''
He said: ''But we fought a civil war against Biafra. We killed ourselves to keep Nigeria one and now you are saying you want to fight again? Who will allow you to go alone? We’ll fight again to keep Nigeria one. Where are they going? Where? Haba! We fought a civil war. We went to war.''
