Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has made a U-turn in the ongoing fight against the insurgency ravaging Nigeria's northeast.
Contrary to his earlier claim that Boko Haram insurgents have been both degraded and defeated, he said the defeat of the terrorist sect is far from over.
He said the Nigerian military must do more to finally crush the insurgents which have stepped up attacks recently, the latest of such attack in the Nigerian state of Adamawa on Wednesday which killed no fewer than seven persons.
He made the declaration on Wednesday in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
According to him, “The war has not yet been won and all is not over until it is over. Hence, I congratulate you on the progress made so far but we must do more.
“Let me urge you to partner with other security agents in prosecuting the war and anything less will jeopardize the efforts of the security forces as a whole.
“I want to assure you that the highest military hierarchy will continue to give you all the necessary support in the fight.”
Recall, General had earlier this month said that Boko Haram has been defeated militarily.
