The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State, on Thursday closed down the sch0ol following the killing of a student of the institution by suspected robbers.
It was gathered that the Higher National Diploma II Computer Science student of the polytechnic, identified as Gabriel Adikwu, was on Saturday stabbed to death in his lodge by the suspected robbers.
It was gathered that Adikwu, who was an indigene of Otukpa, in the Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, was killed when the robbers stormed his apartment at Chelsea Lodge at about 9pm.
Following the killing, PUNCH Metro learnt that there were mounting tensions in the institution as some undergraduates protested against the killing of their fellow student and allegedly vandalised the polytechnic’s clinic.
When contacted, the Personal Assistant to the Rector of the polytechnic, Simon Omale, confirmed the killing and the protest.
He said the management of the polytechnic decided to close down the institution until August 6, 2017, to calm frayed nerves.
Omale, who expressed sadness over the “tragic death” of the student, said his remains had been taken to his home town for burial.
