THE Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar 111 has slammed the northerners for being lazy lots warning them to free theselves from the grip and throes of poverty by shunning lazy attitudes.
He stated this on Thursday while speaking at a meeting of traditional rulers with the 19 northern governors.
According to him, he said the traditional rulers were committed to making the north, “the end of the rest of the world and remained committed to peace in Nigeria.
He said: “We have been doing a lot since the threat given by our youths to Igbo to go back to the South East by October 1. We’ve been very proactive in holding so many meetings. We are getting to some where, and at the end of all this discussion, we will emerge much stronger and more united country. “We are very aware of the herdsmen and farmer clashes all over the country; we are glad that it is on the card for us to discuss.”
''During our last meeting 6months ago, we spent a lot of time and so many things were discussed.''
“But from the earlier discussion, is the North much bettter? Now than we were six months ago? If yes, it means we are making progress, and if No, why?
“ All that has been the problem is to implement decisions taken at such meeting by everybody. therefore, I think we are not short of solutions or further recommendations to all our problems , but what we are short of ;all of us is sincerity, commitment to really do what we say publicly and openly . I think if we don’t change, our situation will continue to get worse.
