The Federal Ministry of Transportation, headed by the Honourable Minister, and former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has been accused of allegedly misappropriating N3.935 million.
This came as the House of Representatives Public Account Committee, PAC, directed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation, Sabiu Zakari, to refund N3.935 million, into government coffers, within 48-hours.
The Committee, chaired by Kingsley Chinda (PDP, Rivers), said failure to refund the money, would leave the Committee with no option, than to refer the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The Committee’s directive, was based on a query raised by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation, over alleged extra budgetary spending, by three agencies under the Ministry, amounting to N1.195 billion, in 2015.
Recall, that the Panel had at an earlier meeting, directed that the Permanent Secretary be remanded in security custody, pending payment of the money.
However, Lawmakers changed that position, following an appeal by the senior government official.
