A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu’s trial before Binta Nyako was expected to commence on Tuesday, July 11.
However, counsel to Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor said, the trial has been adjourned at the instance of the court. Ejiofor also said a new trial date has been fixed for Tuesday, October 17.
We gathered that the federal government has amended its charges against the IPOB leader and three other accused persons – Benjamin Madubugu, David Nwawuisi and Chidiebere Onwudiwe.
The fresh charge reportedly has a new defendant – Bright Chimezie – a personal assistant to Kanu joined in the matter.
Chimezie on the fresh charge has been accused of facilitating the importation of equipment used for the set up of the Radio Biafra.
The Department of State Services alleged that Chimezie helped in importing the Radio transmitter into Nigeria. He was also accused of moving the transmitters to Ihiala in Anambra state.
It was gathered that the trial of the IPOB leader could have been affected by the annual vacation for judges which commenced on Monday, July 10 and is expected to end on September 26.
