Fear has gripped members of the Nigeria Police Force has no few than three policemen were again reportedly killed on Tuesday by a militia-like gang in a robbery operation in Iwo, Osun State.
In what appeared like bearding the lion in its den, the hoodlums first went and ransacked the Police Station, killed the three officers before proceeding to First Bank; Skye Bank and Sterling Bank for the robbery operation.
In the course of the robbery, some automated teller machines at the banks were destroyed and removed resulting in the total desertion of the streets as Policemen and the daring robbers exchanged fire during the operation.
An eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said, “Armed robbers attacked the banks in Iwo today. They came this evening and first went staring to the police station and attacked their men there. After that, they went to the area where the banks are located and carried out their operation.
“They killed three policemen and the police also killed one of the robbers. It is a terrible day here in Iwo.
“I think the banks were aware that they could be attacked because they have been closing by 12noon for the past two months or thereabout.”
