As condemnation continues to trail the eviction order served the Igbos by a Coalition of Arewa Youths, Nigeria's Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris said there has not been any arrest of those behind the eviction notice.
He made the disclosure during an interactive session with journalists at the IGP Conference with senior police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Mr Idris said there is not ruling out arrest of the promoters of the eviction notice adding that the directive by Kaduna state governor will be adhered to provided there were evidence of infringement of the law.
He stated that, “the threat constituted subversive activities to the security of the country.”
He ordered that Police Zonal Commands and State Commands beef up security and intelligence gathering to forestall any breakdown of law and order following the joint statement issued by the group.’
Idris said, “No individual has authority to stop anybody from pursuing their daily bread anywhere in this country.”
He said the Nigerian Police Force has the responsibility to stop any group or individual that attempts to prevent any Nigerian from carrying out his or her daily activity, either movement or association.
