Militant group, New Delta Avenger, vow to resume bloody attacks on the oil industry in Delta state effective from midnight June 30, 2017
The group says it is putting the federal government and oil companies operating in the state on notice over the proposed attacks
The militants accuse Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration of neglecting oil producing areas in Delta state While the nation is still grappling with the tension caused by a quit notice issued Igbos residing in the northern part of the county, militants in the Niger Delta have threatened to resume attacks on oil exploration activities in Delta state.
A militant group, New Delta Avengers, which issued the threat on Wednesday, June 7, warned that effective from midnight June 30, 2017, it would resume bloody attacks on the oil industry in the state, The Guardian reports. Spokesman of the group, Cpl Oleum Bellum, said they were putting the federal government and oil companies – local and multinationals – operating in the state on notice over the proposed attacks tagged “Operation Cripple Oil and Gas Production.
” The group, which claimed to be ex-militants cautioned that those who try their resolve would be made a scape goat. The statement issued by the group read: “From the oil producing parts of Delta State, this morning, June the 6th 2017, converge in Delta State, we have agreed to resume attacks on oil facilities, resurrect the spirit of insurgency and to make a demand for a better deal for our people, and by extension our beloved Delta State.
We will do this through bloody attacks, crippling of oil industry in the state. “We watched the activities, policies of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration these past two years and we have found that, like the biblical Pharaoh, only extraordinary actions can soften his hardened heart towards the oil producing areas of the state.
While developments are going on in rivers and other states, oil communities in Delta have been stagnant. “As a result, we have decided to take up arms and return to the essence of our agitation for the development of oil producing communities in the state. Our return to the creeks starts on the 7th day of June, 2017.
This campaign shall be bloody, destructive and vengeful.” Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Kaduna state to investigate and arrest members of the Coalition of Northern Youths for issuing ultimatum to South Easterners living in the North.
The I-G gave the order at a meeting with Commissioners of Police and other high ranking officers on Thursday in Abuja.
He warned that no individual or group of persons had the right to ask any individual to leave his or her place of residence in any part of the country. He ordered other state commissioners of police in the North and Assistant Inspectors -General of Police in the various zonal commands to do same.
