Chief Ayo Adebanjo has said the Igbo should not be blamed for wanting to secede from Nigeria because they have genuine reasons.
He stated this while fielding question in an interview. Chief Adebanjo called attention to the Nigerian union which, he says, is not working. This above all informed the interest and desire of the Igbos to leave the union.
He said it would be wrong to blame them for wanting to opt out having suffered unduly.
When reminded that the Federal government has insisted that Nigeria’s unity is non-negotiable, he said, You belong to a club when you believe you have an advantage but when the club is oppressing you, then what is the point of remaining there other than to get out?'', he queried.
According to him, ''That is why the Biafra people are saying they want to opt out, do not blame them? Ask them why they want to opt out from a country they have lived all these years? If they have been satisfied and enjoyed the unity of this country, they will not like to leave.''
