As the agitations for Nigeria's possible break up gather more momentum with threats here and there, Igbo leaders in the 19 Northern States under the auspices of Ohaneze Ndigbo have finally denounced what it described as the subversive activities of Biafra separatists movements.
They said what they are after is a restructuring of the country and not outright separation by some separatist groups beating the drums of war thereby creating unnecessary tension and unrest in the country.
“We want justice, equity and fairness to ethnic nationalities”, the Igbo leaders declared during a visit to the leadership of the Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU).
The declaration was made by on Tuesday, the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the 19 Northern states and Abuja, Chief Austine Amaechi while speaking in SOKAPU's headquarters.
He said: “We have faith in one Nigeria; we don’t want to leave. Our agitation is not for Biafra but for justice, fairness and equity.
“We want a Nation that is fair to all the ethnic nationalities, we want to partner with the people of Southern Kaduna in order to build relationship across the Niger”.
