According to a statement from Mr Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, the Secretary general of the Federation Babachir Lawal and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodele Oke remain suspended from their offices till further notice.
Recall that on the 19th of April, President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the two government officials. Following their suspension, a three men committee which included the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN); the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno and headed by the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo was set up to investigate them.
The SGF was to be investigated on allegation of violations of law and due process the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East while Oke was to be probed on the discovery of a huge cash by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, at an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The committee was given 14 days to carry out their investigation and report back to the president. It was impossible for the committee to submit the report which was scheduled for May 8 as the President left the country to London on the 7th of May for his medical check ups.
The presidential aide urged Nigerians to remain patient saying the report from the committee will be made public at the right time.
“Regarding media inquiries on the progress of the report of the presidential investigative panel, Akande urged for patience, explaining that when the time comes, the outcome of the panel would be made manifestly public and Nigerians would be satisfied. He said the two suspended officials remain suspended,” the statement read.
He added that,“Here at this national event, we shall be updating Nigerians on the progress so far attained, how we are addressing some challenges and how President Buhari’s Social Investment Programmes would be significantly expanded going forward,” .
