The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied claims that it is plotting with a Supreme Court Justice, to remove the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
PDP and its candidate in the last Governorship election in the State, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, are challenging the judgement of the State electoral tribunal which upheld the result of the election that declared Obaseki as winner.
Lambasting the state’s All Progressives Congress, APC, of being behind the alleged report, PDP wondered how it was possible for it to be plotting with a judge of the apex court to remove the state governor, in a case that was yet to be heard at the Appeal Court.
PDP’s denial is sequel to a report in the media alleging that a chieftain of the party in Edo State, James Ifaluyi-Ogbeide, recently exposed a plot by the party leadership to sack Governor Obaseki through the Supreme Court.
The party in a statement by its state spokesperson, Chris Osa Nehikhare said, “We read the fabricated, concocted and laughable attempt at a spoof by desperate APC politicians to once again malign, blackmail and intimidate the judiciary, especially the supreme court of Nigeria.
“In a case that has not even been heard at the Appeal Court yet, these desperados, who praised to high heavens their phyrric victory at the tribunal, which they themselves referred to as ‘Mama Akara’ Judgement are pre-empting their impending obvious defeat. They know that the Akara Judgement cannot hold.
“We challenge the journalists, to reveal the venue of the purported news conference, photos, videos and pictures, of the purported news conference and the identity of the person or group who granted the interview or news conference.
“The write up in question is a figment of the infantile and irresponsible mind of the writer and journalist that published the trash! Mr James Ifaluyi-Ogbeide is not a member of PDP and we are convinced no such person exists.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we would like to reiterate that we have the utmost respect for the judiciary and consider it distasteful and unacceptable the way the APC government has consistently tried to bring them to disrepute. We believe the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man”.
