As activities commence to mark the 90 birthday of Ijaw leader and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, former Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, has reminded Nigerians the importance of the duo of President Olusegun and Chief Edwin Clark to Nigeria.
In his capacity as the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, declared that Nigeria needed more individuals like chief Clark who are fearless and ready to tell the authorities the truth.
Continuing, he said, if you want to do anything in Nigeria and you have not factored Obasanjo into the equation, you are probably unrealistic.
Bozimo explained that the high point of the celebration would be a symposium with the theme: “Restructuring, True Federalism and Resource Control: Panacea For Enduring and Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”
Dignitaries expected at the occasion are former presidents of Nigeria, former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Arch. Victor Attah as the keynote speaker, Gen Ike Nwachukwu, Nigeria Economic Summit Group, NESG, Prof Anyo O Anya.
Others are, Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Prof Ango Abdullahi; President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Dr John Nnia Nwodo; former Nigerian Ambassador to Brazil Patrick Dele Cole; and human rights activists, Mr Yinka Odumakin.
Describing Clark further, the former Police Affairs Minister, Bozimo said Nigerians need more of him who are fearless.
He said, “Clark looks people in the eye and says what he wants to say. Nigeria needs more E.K Clark. If we don’t tell ourselves the truth we will rot and die. We need more of EK Clark who will tell us the truth. The future belongs to the young ones and us as older ones need to work with you. So there is a need for Information, dialogue and rubbing minds together and highlighting those values that make the man great.”
He also said among the dignitaries being expected at the event is the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo,
On the importance of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to Nigeria, he was quoted as saying, “former President Olusegun Obasanjo is my boss and I am hoping he will honour us with his presence. If you want to do anything and you have not factored Obasanjo into the equation, you are probably unrealistic.”
