It was alarming, as Post-Nigeria visited the Federal Government Academy, Suleja, at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to discover that students of 104 public boarding schools, are fed with N50 per meal daily, making it N150 for three-square meals per day.
Emerging report showed that President Muhammadu Buhari was “kind enough” to increase the amount to N62.02 per meal, totaling N186 daily per student, in the 2017 approved budget.
This shocking discovery confirmed Daily Trust’s earlier report, that students of Federal Government Colleges are starving, while Nigerian Politicians spend hundreds of thousands daily to feed themselves, as reflected in their annual budgets.
Post-Nigeria’s analysis of the 2017 budget, revealed that offices of the President and the Vice President, spend about N300, 000 and N147, 000 respectively, on food daily.
Other findings revealed that prisoners are literally fed better than the students in Federal public schools. The Federal Government currently, is spending N450 daily (N150 per meal), in feeding each of the over 50, 000 inmates in detention across the 227 Nigeria Prisons Service facilities in the country.
Post-Nigeria recalled, that N115 million was budgeted for food stuff for the Office of the President this year, which comes down to N319, 444 worth of food per day.
The Office of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, according to the official figures, will spend N53 million on food stuff this year, or N147, 222 worth of food daily.
The State House, according to the budget figures, will spent N850 million on food stuff and catering materials, purchase of canteen and kitchen equipment, and cooking gas this year.
The breakdown shows that kitchen utensils will gulp N431 million; food stuff and catering materials will swallow N360 million; and N63 million for cooking gas.
The President’s office will spend N115 million on food stuff, N101 million on kitchen utensils or equipment, and N22 million on cooking gas. The Vice President will spend N53 million on food stuff, N12 million on kitchen utensils, and N246, 000 on cooking gas.
