Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has insisted that he would resign today, Thursday, May 4, if the Senate fails to lay the 2017 budget, together with the National Assembly budget, at the Hallow Chamber.
In an exclusive text message to Post-Nigeria, on Thursday morning, Saraki’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bankole Omisore, stated this contrary to media reports, that the Senate Committee on Appropriation, will not lay the budget today.
“The 2017 budget will be laid today, then debated today and Tuesday, and then passed on Wednesday. If they don’t lay the National Assembly Budget today, I will have to resign”, Bankole said.
Recall, that the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, had on Wednesday evening, admitted that he is not sure when the 2017 Appropriation Bill will be laid in the Upper Chambers.
“They are doing the harmonisation, data cleaning, just trying to do due diligence to make sure everything is fully in place.
“That’s the most critical stage, because it is a thorough, painstaking job. If you notice today, you didn’t see the Chairman Appropriation in the Chamber, and they are working very hard on it.
“I cannot confirm when it will be laid. All I know is that they are working very hard to make sure everything is put in place. It is something that if we make one mistake, it’s a whole document, and it’s a bulky document with thousands of pages”, he had said.
