The Senate, has issued a two-weeks ultimatum to the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, to ensure submission of the budgets of 31 public establishments to the National Assembly, in line with the provision of the Constitution and Fiscal Responsibility Act.
It was learnt that some of the top government agencies’ budgets were missing in the 2017 budget that was submitted to the National Assembly a few months ago, by President Muhamamdu Buhari
The Senate, following a motion by the Deputy Leader, Bala Na’Allah, on Wednesday, also resolved that the concerned agencies should stop further spending, pending compliance.
Top sources added that, the failure of Osinbajo to comply within the mandated deadline, may result to the call for his resignation or impeachment.
Some of the government agencies include the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and the Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, among others.
Many Senators, including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Solomon Adeola, APC-Lagos; George Sekibo, PDP-Rivers; James Manager, PDP-Delta; Barnabas Gemade, APC-Benue; took a swipe at the agencies, for disregarding the law and spending “trillions”, in sum, without appropriation.
