Delta politician and former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori has won a London High Court declaration for unlawful detention by Home Secretary Amber Rudd.
Ibori had approached the London Court for the breaching of his fundamental Human Rights and claiming £4000 in the process but was awarded a nominal sum of £1 by the presiding judge, Justice Cheema-Grubb.
Chief Ibori, reported Daily Mail, was unlawfully held last year for nearly two days.
Delivering her ruling, Justice Cheema- Grubb said, the Home Secretary “failed to have regard to her limits to detain” as attempts were made to claw back millions from the fraudster.
In rejecting Ibori’s bid for thousands in compensation, the judge ruled: “There is no compensatory loss to Mr Ibori and I fix nominal damages at £1.”
